The Wonderful Sacraments by Francis Doyle, 1st Ed 1924, Signed Presentation Copy

1924 TRUE FIRST EDITION - Presentation Copy from "the Author". THE WONDERFUL SACRAMENTS by Francis X. Benziger Brothers, New York - 1924 - Inscribed one month after publication. Scarce and important first edition of this classic early-20th-century explanation of the Sacraments, written by the noted Jesuit theologian Francis X. This is the genuine 1924 first printing (title page dated 1924, lists only Doyle's earlier book The Home World, correct red ribbed cloth binding with bright gilt). Inscribed in ink by "the author". It is unknown whether this inscription was from the hand of Doyle, or someone else, on behalf of Doyle.

Immediately above the date, in a different hand, in pencil. The inscription is dated exactly one month after the book's official publication date (October 25, 1924), making this an early presentation/gift copy distributed by the author himself through the Jesuit network. "Tony Brennan" is perhaps a Jesuit associate of the author.

Tight, square binding; bright gilt on cover and spine; light rubbing to extremities and a few faint marks to cloth; pages clean and crisp with only minor age-toning. No previous owner names or bookplates other than the Doyle presentation.

There is a small dirt mark that can be seen in the photo of the bottom edge. This comes from pages 42-50, where small dirt marks (1/4) appear (see the final photo of the listing).

A genuinely rare association/presentation copy.
