Signed David Hockney Art Book, Cameraworks 1st Edition

This first edition signed David Hockey book titled, "Cameraworks" is a compilation of photo collages accompanied by text written by Lawrence Weshchler, an art critic for the New Yorker. The book covers Hockney's initial experiments with photography from March 1981 through June 1983. Through photography and photo collage Hockney meant to illustrate the difficulty of perception. This is a first edition book published by Alfred A.

Hockney burst onto the art scene in the 60s and was known for being a leader in the British Pop Art movement, becoming one of Britains most exciting artists. During his fifty-plus year career Hockney has embraced working in a variation of mediums including painting, printmaking, photography, and set design. Throughout his lengthy and fruitful career Hockney has continued to intrigue the public with his consistently innovative work. During the 60s and 70s Hockney was best known for his landscape paintings of LA, his portraits, and his inventive technique for creating photomontage. Around this time Hockney met and befriended Andy Warhol, who had greatly inspired Hockney as well as being a fellow gay artist.

However, unlike Warhol Hockney represented gay love in his portraiture, often in domestic settings, making him a leader in creating art that openly represented gay lifestyles. Starting in the'80s Hockney began to create work mixing art and technology, which Hockney has continued into the present day creating art with the iPhone and the iPad.
