But how many of us are aware of how cookery arrived at its present level of sophistication and diversification.
Cookery arrived at its present sophistication by slow degrees and over many years. In the early stages of the world, man was content with his vegetable and fruit diet. The Middle-Ages was at a time of stews, thick broths, pies and soups.
As man began to feed on animals, fowls and fish seasonings grew necessary to make the meal more palatable and savory. Salt probably was first discovered for use as a seasoning then found out to be a preservative. Basically, cookery methods went from boiling to stewing to roasting, eventually becoming a universal and diversified art. This then isa brief historical glimpse into the art of cookery and confectionery and the development of culinary utensils. About Publisher, Gerry Vance (from Wikipedia).
