Celebrated American Author JOHN STEINBECK flat signed copy of his literary masterwork "IN DUBIOUS BATTLE". Steinbeck has signed and hand-dated on the front free endpaper "Los Gatos 1938". The book is uninscribed making it highly desirable and the perfect addition to any collection!

The title is a reference to a passage from John Milton's "Paradise Lost". Building off the commercial success of Steinbeck's "Tortilla Flat" (1935), the book would soon be followed by the beloved literary classic, "Of Mice And Men" (1937).

Published in New York by Covici Friede, this book is a First Edition, Second Printing copy from February 1936. The book deals with a fruit-workers' strike in a California valley and the working class during the Depression, striking against an increasingly cruel establishment in ways that would lead to the formation of workers' rights, and fair wages.
